Anjuna and Vagator share a stretch of red laterite cliffs, small coves and winding lanes north of Baga. The area has a looser, creative feel, with cafés in old houses and boutique stays in Assagao just inland. It is also some of North Goa’s most enjoyable driving, provided you take the bends gently and plan around market days.

Driving and parking in Anjuna and Vagator

Cliff and hill roads. The routes between Anjuna, Vagator and Chapora climb and dip along the headlands, often with no kerb and a drop to one side. Two-wheelers use the full width of the road, sometimes on the wrong side around bends. A short tap of the horn before a blind corner is normal practice here, and so is slowing right down.

Flea market Wednesdays. In season, the Anjuna flea market draws large crowds every Wednesday. Roads near the market ground and beach become congested from late morning and parking is mostly informal, paid fields. Arrive early, or park further back and walk.

Vagator sunset. The clifftop above Vagator and the approach to Chapora Fort fill up in the hour before sunset. Leave the car in a proper parking area rather than on the verge, as the edges can be loose and narrow.

At night. Unlit sections, sharp bends and cattle or dogs resting on the road make the cliffs harder after dark. For late events, a taxi back is the wiser choice, and never drive after drinking.

Two short drives from Anjuna

Chapora Fort and the river mouth

From Anjuna, drive north through Vagator to Chapora, roughly 4–5 km. Park at the base of the hill and walk up the short, uneven path to the ruined fort for views over Vagator beach and the Chapora river. Afterwards, drive down to the fishing village of Chapora for a relaxed lunch by the water.

Assagao and Siolim

Head inland to Assagao, a leafy village of restored Portuguese homes, art spaces and cafés, then continue to Siolim on the Chapora river, about 10 km in total. The roads are narrower but quieter than the coast, and the river views make it a gentle afternoon loop.

Which cars suit Anjuna and Vagator

The hills and short distances here suit cars that are agile and fun at moderate speed.

  • Clifftop convertibles: the Mini Cooper Convertible handles tight turns and small parking spaces with ease. The BMW Z4 is the pick for two people who want a sharper drive.
  • Comfort on uneven lanes: the Range Rover Evoque Coupé gives extra ground clearance for unpaved villa access in Assagao.
  • A bigger group: the Land Rover Defender 110 has room for five and handles rough tracks, though you will need to plan parking on market days.

Arranging your car in Anjuna or Vagator

Delivery on request — send us your villa or hotel details and when you would like the car. Anjuna is the closest part of our patch to Mopa airport; if that is where you land, ask us about collection options. From Goa Dabolim Airport, allow around 80–100 minutes.

Anjuna and Vagator car rental FAQs

Do you cover Vagator as well as Anjuna? Yes. Anjuna, Vagator, Chapora and Assagao sit within a few kilometres of each other, so this page covers all four. Tell us where you are staying in the area when you enquire, and our team will confirm the handover details and the cars available for your dates.

When is the Anjuna flea market, and is parking easy? The market runs on Wednesdays during the tourist season. Roads nearby get busy from late morning, and parking is mostly in informal paid areas. Arrive early, or park further away and walk. Avoid stopping on narrow verges.

Are the cliff roads safe to drive? They are fine in daylight if you take them slowly. Expect bends without barriers, two-wheelers cutting corners and animals resting on the road. Use the horn briefly at blind corners, avoid the roads after dark where possible, and never drive after drinking.

Can I drive from Anjuna to the airport at the end of my trip? Yes. Kilometres are unlimited within Goa. Allow generous time — roughly 80–100 minutes to Dabolim, depending on traffic — and remember the fuel policy is same-to-same. Speak to our team about where the return will take place before your last day.
