Manohar International Airport at Mopa (GOX) opened in January 2023 in Pernem, Goa’s northernmost taluka. For anyone staying on the North Goa coast, it can cut the airport drive roughly in half compared with Dabolim. Mopa or Dabolim for a North Goa holiday?
Goa has two working airports, about 1 to 1.5 hours apart by road. Which one suits you depends mainly on where you are staying.
Choose Mopa if your hotel or villa is anywhere from Candolim northwards: Calangute, Baga, Anjuna, Vagator, Siolim, Morjim, Mandrem or Arambol. You avoid the Panaji and Porvorim traffic that slows most journeys from Dabolim, and the airport approach road is new and fast.
Choose Dabolim if you are staying in Panaji, central Goa or anywhere in South Goa, or if your preferred flight only operates there. Dabolim is our home base, so it is also where we have the most flexibility on timing. See our Dabolim Airport page.
Splitting your stay? Some guests fly into one airport and out of the other, for example arriving at Dabolim for a week in the south and departing from Mopa after a few days in the north. Mention this when you enquire.
Drive times from Mopa
Mopa connects to NH66 via a dedicated link road, then fans out to the coast. All times are approximate and depend on traffic and season.

How to arrange a car at Mopa
- Contact us before you book your flight, if you can. Tell us your flight number, arrival time, dates and the car you want. We will confirm the handover time and meeting point before you land.
- Share your documents in advance. A valid driving licence, proof of identity (passport or Aadhaar) and a credit or debit card for the refundable deposit. International visitors need an International Driving Permit and a passport with a valid visa.
- Meet at arrivals. We inspect the car with you, record the fuel level and complete the paperwork.
- Return. Return at Mopa, Dabolim or your hotel, as agreed in advance. Mopa drop-off is ₹500.
Because Mopa is further from our base near Dabolim, please allow us notice. The Mopa charge is ₹500 for pickup and ₹500 for drop-off.
Cars that suit a Mopa arrival
Tight northern lanes favour smaller cars, but day one needs room for bags.

Do you hand over cars at Mopa airport?
Yes. We hand over cars at Mopa for ₹500 and collect them there for ₹500. Send us your flight details when you enquire and our team will confirm the meeting point and timing. Because our base is near Dabolim, please give us as much notice as you can, especially for early-morning or late-night arrivals.
How far is Mopa from Calangute and Baga?
Roughly 30 to 35 km, usually 35 to 45 minutes by car via the airport link road and NH66. That is around half the time of the drive from Dabolim, which is further south and requires passing through Panaji and Porvorim.
Is Mopa better than Dabolim for North Goa?
For most stays north of Candolim, yes, because the drive is shorter and avoids Panaji traffic. For Panaji, central Goa and South Goa, Dabolim is usually closer. Compare flight prices too.
Can I land at Mopa and return the car at Dabolim?
Ask us when you enquire. It suits guests moving from north to south during a trip, but a different drop-off point can affect timing or cost, so give us both airports.
What if my Mopa flight is delayed?
Give us your flight number and we will follow your arrival. A delay does not cancel the handover, but contact us by phone or WhatsApp if your flight is diverted or cancelled.
